EASTER MONDAY JUNKANOO 2010 RUSH 2010
Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.” Psalm 150:1-6 (KJV) The Because He Lives Community Junkanoo Rush Committee spear-headed a massive display of true Bahamian culture commemorating the Easter Festivities of Jesus’ life, crucifixion and resurrection. The committee was successful as it brought believers, Junkanoo, spectators and neighbors together in a colorful and musical expression of faith and devotion to God. Liturgical dance troops, Junkanoo musicians and others adorned in purple, red and white colors, Junkanoo group paraphernalia, decorative costumes, paraded the streets to showcase their passion, and faith through the arts. The parade was well attended and began at 5 am and proceeded west on Wulf Road form Windsor Park to the grounds of the The College of The Bahamas. The mastermind, Pastor Dr. William Thompson of the Faith United Baptist Church is an avid Junkanoo and member of the world renowned Valley Boys Junkanoo Group.
